Northside Chronicle, April 17, 2002, Wednesday NEUROFOCUS Anti-Ageing Wellness Centre at 30 Brighton Tce, Sandgate, treats learning disorders with an emphasis on underlying health issues. Director Dr Jill Engelmann said many conditions such as ADHD and ADD could be traced back to problems ranging from diabetes through to mercury exposure. She said these needed to be addressed instead of putting children on a course of drugs such as Ritalin or Dexamphetamine. "We at Neurofocus Anti-Ageing and Wellness Centre have been searching for answers relating to learning disorders for the best part of a decade," Dr Engelmann said. "After studying at Maastricht Institute we started using Neurofeedback, with excellent results. It was only after taking a few children with autism we were forced to recognise its limitations. "In frustration, we put a particularly difficult client on the HeartMath (a heart rate variability bio-feedback system). Through this we became aware that Neurofeedback and all other therapies we were aware of were treating a symptom and not the whole person. "Subsequent to this we attended various courses in the USA, buying first an American heart rate variability system and finally a very superior Russian system. All of these confirmed our earlier findings that it was a health problem which gave rise to a range of symptoms." Dr Engelmanm said: "Many ADD/ADHD and learning disorder children have a health problem. Their autonomic nervous system is seriously impaired. "We have developed a program that is appropriately drug-free and uses processes including energetic medicine, parenting skills to rebuild self-esteem and nutritional advice."
